  • Sermon SummaryGod is in the business of growing life in the place of death. It's illustrated by all this Memorial Day weekend signifies for us: how the deaths of those willing to die have yielded life for generations to come. When you drive through one of the many cornfields around here in winter, they are dead, the ground is hard. Given a little time, the sun rises, the season changes, and new life begins to grow again. All of this points to the ultimate way God has caused the ultimate kind of life to grow in the place of the ultimate kind of death. Our text for today brings us another striking picture of this very thing.

Prayers and Praises

Pray for a Nation: Turkey

Prayer

60 people groups; 45 languages; predominantly Muslim.

There are about 7,000 believers (.008%) among a secular nation whose political climate is being challenged to hold to more conservative Islamic values. Hundreds of educated Turks are turning away from Islam and asking questions leading to openness to the good news. Pray for the few existing churches among them to grow in depth and number to reach their neighbors and the unengaged areas where expats cannot reach. Pray for the 15 million Kurds in Turkey, as well as Iranian and Syrian refugees as they face many hardships.

Pray for an Unreached People Group (UPG): Shaikh in Bangladesh

Prayer

More than 135 million people; Muslim faith; very few followers of Christ.

Spiritual darkness has long prevailed over the Shaikh. Much prayer is needed, as the Shaikh fear Christianity as an invading threat to their families and communities. There are a few believers in Jesus among the very large Shaikh community of Bangladesh. They need much prayer support for physical and spiritual protection, and for effectiveness and fruitfulness in sowing God's Word among their families and communities to fuel a movement of God's blessing spreading from household to household. Pray that as the Shaikh read the Koran, they will be drawn to Jesus (whom Muslims call Isa al-Masih) and to the Bible.
